Back to the Future: Young Artists Look at Old Masters
To celebrate the Frieze fair Robilant+Voena came up with a very sophisticated show 'Back to the Future: Young Artists Look at Old Masters" where they comissioned the contemporary artists to do interpretations on the masterpieces from the gallery collection. The result was astonishing, putting the historical pieces into a whole new light and showing the continuity of the tradition in the ultra-contemporary.

Back to the Future: Young Artists Look at Old Masters
The concept is neat, and so is the fact that the gallery commissioned the works in the show, inviting British artists into its gallery to choose an inspiration and "investigate and expose the strong dialogue between the past and the present."

Next Thursday sees the London gallery Robilant + Voena unveiling a show in which young British school artists respond to Old Master paintings. Most have been commissioned for the show and include some startling juxtapositions.'
