Description
A pair of butterflies, magnificent in their delicacy and patterned detail, rest gently on wispy leaves of gold. Intricately carved from Ankole cow horn, these artworks are resplendent simulacra of the turquoise emperor, a butterfly found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and northern Australia.

The precisely placed gemstones create the dazzling natural markings on the creatures' wings, a sweeping spectrum of colour: from the blue hue of sapphires across the central parts, to the flaming gold tips, here rendered with cognac diamonds and rubies. Harumi's careful selection of the precious stones and metals for the production of these pieces refocuses attention on the extraordinary artistry of nature, fusing two dazzling creations of the natural world - the butterflies themselves and exquisite natural materials - to give birth to an artwork that is more beautiful any one of its individual parts.
