Description

Jamie Adams (born in 1961) is an American painter.


He was born and raised in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For his undergraduate studies, he attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he earned a BFA with honors in 1983. In 2000, he received an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.


His works are part of the permanent public collections of the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura (São Paulo, Brazil), the Museum of Modern Art Library (New York), MOMA (Wales), the research library of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, Medrad Corporation, and the Pennsylvania State Capitol (Senate, House of Representatives, Governor’s Office). His works are also included in the collections of academic institutions such as Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Michigan Medical School, and Washington University in St. Louis.


His work has been referenced internationally in publications such as Art in America, the Bulletin du Musée Ingres (Montauban, France), as well as in the following books: Fragonard, Regards croisés, co-authored by Louvre curators Dimitri Salmon and Jean-Pierre Cuzin (Department of Paintings, Louvre Museum, published by MENGES, 2007); The Figure: Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture, by Margaret McCann (published by Skira Rizzoli, 2014); and New Surrealism: The Uncanny in Contemporary Painting, by Robert Zeller, published by Phaidon, 2024.


Adams’s works are represented by the Zolla Lieberman Gallery (Chicago, IL) and the Philip Slein Gallery (St. Louis). He lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with his wife and children.
