Description
This serene work is a sculptural embodiment of a cheetah, titled Mafdet II. The sculpture is inspired by the Ancient Egyptian goddess of justice, who was often portrayed in feline form, or as a woman wearing the skin of a cheetah. Cast in bronze, the sculpture appears to cry tears of gold, with 24 carat gilded touches animating the head.

The regal pose of the sculpture evokes the cheetah's patience and nobility, alluding to the characteristics of these creatures in the wild. At over one metre tall, this impressive piece has a presence that commands respect and contemplation, mirroring Harumi's own relationship with her animal muses.

The Ancient Egyptians, with their celebration of the sacredness of animals and the animal form, have provided inspiration for Harumi across her artistic practice. Works such as Mafdet II pay homage to the animal spirit that resides in us all.
