Trained by his father Antonio, and by the sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini (1777-1850) in Carrara, Raimondo Trentanove went to Rome to work in the studio of Antonio Canova. In collaboration with the latter, Trentanove continued to work in the sprit of his master and he also produced copies from the antique as a series of four reliefs to adorn the base of the statue of Washington. He excelled above all in the art of portraiture and included among his masterpieces the bust of Pius VII in Ancon, the portrait of Canova in the Galleria Moderna in Milan, and am important memorial bust to the glory of Napoleon at Museo del Risorgilmento in Faenza.
