Robilant+Voena is pleased to announce an exhibition of female Old Master and twentieth-century artists, Ahead of her Time: Pioneering Women from the Renaissance to the Twentieth Century, opening next month in our New York gallery.
The exhibition brings together works by over twenty female artists, spanning five centuries. In addition, the exhibition includes artworks depicting, and objects owned by, notable women from artistic and intellectual spheres.
Many of the paintings and artworks have not been seen in public for decades, and the exhibition has brought to light discoveries, including an unpublished painting by Artemisia Gentileschi and exciting new attributions.
Featured artists include: Anna Maria Bassi, Mary Beale, Anna Rimbault-Borrel, Orsola Maddalena Caccia, Rosalba Carriera, Giulia Crespi, Erminia de Sanctis, Victoria Dubourg, Grace Adelaide Fletcher, Lavinia Fontana, Fede Galizia, Grace Gassette, Artemisia Gentileschi, Laura Coombs Hills, Antoinette-Cécile-Hortense Haudebourt-Lescot, Angelica Kauffmann, Catherine Lusurier, Elisabetta Marchioni, Athénaïs Paulinier, Sophie Frémiet Rude and Anne Vallayer-Coster.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with essays for each of the 35 works in the exhibition, which you can order now through our bookshop. A book on three of the key artists in the show - Artemisia Gentileschi, Fede Galizia and Orsola Maddalena Caccia - containing recent research and essays by leading experts in 17th-century Italian art, is also available here.
