Il Giornale dell'Arte has reported on Robilant+Voena's sale of an important French Neoclassical painting to the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The picture by Charles Meynier is the only known oil study for the artist's masterpiece The Farewell of Telemachus and Eucharis, exhibited in the Paris Salon of 1800, which is already in the Louvre Abu Dhabi's collection. The oil study, Telemachus, urged by Mentor, leaving the island of Calypso, is in an excellent state of conversation and may have served as the sketch presented to Meynier's patron for approval for the finished picture.
