Robilant+Voena is pleased to announce its representation of painter Stephen Appleby-Barr in London, Paris, and Milan.
The gallery together with Carolyn H. Miner will feature the artist’s work for the first time in an online presentation launching 10 February 2021 and will present his first solo exhibition at its gallery in London in March 2021. The Canada-born, London-based painter is the first emerging artist to be represented by the gallery. Marco Voena comments,
Appleby-Barr is an artist who is advancing the potential of contemporary painting. Unafraid of looking to the past, his paintings fuse and evolve the history of art, creating their own world of mystery and recognition. We’re thrilled to welcome Stephen to Robilant+Voena.
Appleby-Barr’s paintings juxtapose fantastical and everyday objects, conjuring a dreamlike world which verges on the uncanny. Drawn to the intricate symbolism and aesthetics of old master painting, his masterly use of oil paint creates deeply atmospheric works which transport the viewer into his otherworldly universe.
