In conjunction with the online exhibition Diplomacy Medici Style, this video focuses on the exquisite Crucifixion with the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist by Pietro Tacca and his workshop, a reduced version of the famous Pistoia Crucifix in the National Gallery of Art, Washington. The video explores the phenomenon of gift-giving in the sixteenth century, when Grand Duke Ferdinando I commissioned crucifixes to donate to Medici churches and to gift to an important few.
